The O’Hare International Airport UFO Sighting

Airport staff and passengers watched a silent disc pierce the clouds over Chicago.

February 11, 2026

On February 11, 2007, employees and witnesses at Chicago’s O’Hare International Airport reported seeing a strange object hovering above Gate C17. The sighting quickly became one of the most credible and widely reported modern UFO cases.

A Disc Over a Major Airport

At approximately 4:30 p.m., multiple United Airlines employees noticed a dark, metallic, disc-shaped object hovering silently above the airport. Witnesses described the object as:

  • Smooth and saucer-shaped
  • Roughly 6–24 feet in diameter
  • Completely silent and motionless

Passengers and ground crew gathered to watch as the object remained suspended for several minutes.

Then, without warning, it shot straight upward at incredible speed.

Witnesses said the craft punched a perfect circular hole in the cloud layer, leaving a visible gap that lingered for several minutes.

Official Response

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) initially dismissed the sighting as a weather phenomenon, claiming it may have been a “hole-punch cloud.” However, the explanation was controversial because:

  • Numerous trained aviation employees witnessed the object
  • No radar confirmation was publicly released
  • The FAA declined to conduct a formal investigation

The story later gained national attention after being reported by the Chicago Tribune.

Why It Still Matters

The O’Hare incident is often cited as one of the strongest modern UFO sightings due to the number of credible witnesses and the location—one of the busiest airports in the world.

Nearly two decades later, the case remains officially unexplained.
